Soul in the Driver's Seat

A Course in Miracles for Today

Soul in the Driver's Seat

Who is Rick Greathouse?

Richard Curtis Greathouse is a devoted son, husband, father, brother, and friend. He is also an experienced teacher with thirty-one years in special and general education at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. During a twelve-year break from teaching, he was a civilian employee of the San Francisco Police Department, a job coach for adults with intellectual disabilities, and a community ambassador serving San Francisco's un-housed community in the South of Market business district, before returning to teaching again. Since February 2020, to his astonishment, he has found himself serving as receiver of several books from the unseen world, all of which he has generously and freely shared online. He lives in the city with his amazing partner, Hank. Together they love listening to music, going to concerts, reading, taking walks, and just hanging out. The one accomplishment he is proudest of is his role in birthing Soul in the Driver's Seat: A Course in Miracles for Today - a book he knows deep in his soul, will be a powerful gift to all who discover it.

Rick's Story: How This Book Came to Be

It was in 2006, while clearing out my brother's room after he died, that I first encountered A Course in Miracles (ACIM). As I was going through his things, I came across the now-familiar blue book and realized that he'd been studying ACIM's deep metaphysical messages of truth! That was a surprise. Holding the book in my hand, I silently heard, "Do you want to read this?" I was ill at the time and was about to have major surgery, so my answer was "No, I'm not ready!"

Seven years later I was ready. I bought myself a copy of ACIM and read it twice, once in 2013 and again in 2014. And that's when I discovered the just-published combined volume of A Course of Love (ACOL). This beautiful book grabbed my heart and cracked it wide open! I simply could not put it down. I must have read it cover to cover fifteen times or more over the next few years - 2014 to 2020. And that's when I heard that I was going to receive a brand-new book that was a continuation of ACOL, and a completion of what began with the original ACIM in 1965. It was February 7, 2020, one month before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

And so began almost six years of my receiving and writing. Most of these books are available on the A Journey into the Unknown and Arrival websites. There are a few that have not been seen by the public and one that even I haven't read. The first three parts of the book, Soul in the Driver's Seat: A Course in Miracles for Today, were received over a six-month period during the summer and fall of 2022. They were written in segments, as I was called upon at all times of day and night and especially during the early morning hours. I would listen and write, then get myself ready and go off to my full time day job as a Special Education teacher at a high school in the city.

When I was first informed that this brand new A Course in Miracles would be written, I literally said, "Oh, Hell No!" I'm not kidding either! I knew that the original ACIM had taken seven years to receive and write down. And I simply could not imagine fulfilling this request, which honestly felt a lot more like a demand! Yet in the end, I relented, and the initial handwritten manuscript was completed in September 2022. Little did I know then that it was only Volume One. When I was informed that there would be two more parts, I was so furious that steam must have been coming out of my ears! Calming myself down I went to Walgreens, selected a second notebook, and by November that year, Volumes Two and Three were complete.

You're likely wondering - how does all of this work? The answer is I am clairaudient. I can hear unseen beings talking to me. Imagine a manager in a company dictating to her secretary. Well, I'm the secretary, the difference being that I cannot see the manager! All I do is make myself available, listen, receive, and write down what comes, word for word. I don't go through any kind of writing process. I don't brainstorm, draft, or edit. I don't know anything about what I am receiving nor where it is going. I do know how many times a day Jesus wants to meet and the approximate times. Most sessions are between twenty and thirty minutes, and I manage to squeeze them in around my full-time job. Although I have no idea what any session will be about, it all weirdly ends up making sense. And you'll be pleased to know that Soul in the Driver's Seat was a lot more fun for me than many of the other books I've received.

In the spring of 2024, I heard another figurative knock on my door. And guess what? There was going to be a fourth part to Soul in the Driver's Seat called Soul Companion! I knew that Soul Companion was going to focus on two years of journal prompts correlating with the two years of daily reflections - Steps to Authenticity and The Gift of Wisdom - offered in Volume One. Although I couldn't quite see how Jesus' accompanying narratives complemented the journal prompts, until Christina suggested a few tweaks to improve clarity and flow. At this point I was completely worn out and ready to hang up my channeling shoes! Yet here I am! Still willingly making myself available more than a year later! And feeling so very grateful to have completed this amazing book - Soul in the Driver's Seat, A Course in Miracles for Today - for you and for everyone who discovers its magical and practical wisdom in the years ahead.
